Tradesmen
Accountant for tradesmen in Cornwall
CIS, Self Assessment and bookkeeping for Cornwall's plumbers, builders, electricians and decorators, on a set fee.
Plumbers, builders, electricians, decorators, groundworkers, roofers: the Cornish trades. Set-fee accountancy with CIS handled properly, so the Construction Industry Scheme works for you instead of being one more headache at the end of a long week.
What's covered
- CIS: verification, deductions, monthly contractor returns, year-end recovery of subbie deductions.
- Self Assessment: including the right capital allowances on your van and tools.
- Bookkeeping: receipts, mileage, materials, fuel. Quarterly catch-ups, not annual panic.
- VAT: if you're over the threshold or considering voluntary registration for cash flow.
Pricing
Starting at £25/month + VAT for the basic self-employed tradesman tier (£300/year). CIS work, VAT, payroll, or any more involved setup is quoted on top of the starting fee, set once we've talked. No hourly surprises.
“We've worked with KP Accountants Ltd for several years and they've been excellent throughout. From CIS and VAT through to accounts and tax returns, everything is handled efficiently and on time. Keiran is easy to contact and always happy to help with any questions.”
If it's easier, Keiran can meet you on site. Most trades clients prefer to come to the Roche office, but visits are still on the table when you've got a yard or premises to talk through.
FAQs
The Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) sets rules for how contractors must handle payments to subcontractors. If you work as a subie, your contractor deducts tax before paying you — 20% if you're registered, 30% if you're not. Registering with HMRC is straightforward and worth doing straight away.
Yes. Vans used for work can be claimed through capital allowances, and running costs — fuel, insurance, servicing — are deductible. If the van is used privately as well, only the business proportion can be claimed. KP Accountants handles this so you get the maximum allowable deduction without any compliance risk.
You must register once your taxable turnover exceeds the current VAT threshold (£90,000 in 2026/27). Voluntary registration below that threshold is sometimes worth considering for cash-flow reasons. Either way, call before you hit the threshold — not after.
